In the meantime, I’m still working on “Our Lady of Liberty,” and my deadline is November 1st!  As a matter of fact, I was so wrapped up in painting last week that I completely forgot to write you! My apologies!

In keeping with Spooky Season this weekend, the scariest part of this painting – the addition of the fireworks – is yet to come. Why is it so scary?

Back in 2011, I was commissioned to paint ”The Golden Glow of Pittsburgh’s Light-up Night” five weeks before it was due to appear on WTAE’s 50th Anniversary of Pittsburgh’s Light-up Night TV special and be unveiled downtown in front of tons of TV/newspaper/radio stations, celebrities, and the public. I was hard at work creating the darkest sky I had ever painted.  The buildings were lit up bright, and the fireworks were the finishing touch to the painting.

I took a deep breath, ready to make my first firework bluish-purple in color, my adorable (I love him so much) husband walked by my studio door and said in a sarcastic voice, “That’s just what this painting needs, more blue.”I may have screamed out loud. My thoughts raced. I knew that if I didn’t get this right, my perfect blue sky would be changed forever. So I ever-so-carefully took a dry brush and painstakingly brushed away each piece of the first firework bit by bit until it was gone.

But that moment with Tom is forever burned into my brain, and now I find myself in the same place 14 years later… a perfect blue sky and knowing what I do next could change the vibe of the whole painting that I have been working on since early September. I truly am scared… which inspired the sale!

Wish me luck! And in the meantime, I hope you’ll take advantage of my online sale and take 15% off anything on my site*  until midnight Sunday!
