A Small Act of Kindness / An Abundance of Love

The title of today’s blog relates to our experiences at last week’s South Hills Home Show at AHN Cool Springs Sports Complex in Bethel Park.

From the moment we arrived Thursday to set up, the other vendors went out of their way to welcome us and to help us carry everything in. Friends and customers stopped by to tell me they were so glad I was there and that they found me! On Friday, Andy from Evey Hardware showcased our booth on BPTV. And on Saturday, KDKA’s Rob Pratte Live interviewed me for about 20 minutes. He asked questions about my career and told me how much he treasured the portrait that I painted years ago of his children and his train set-up. It was a portrait that I dearly loved painting.

A young man who modeled for my painting of “Riding Kennywood’s Auto Race and Train” wanted to show me how little he was when I painted the piece back in 2002!

But the moment that really filled my heart with joy was one small act of kindness. While I was away from my booth, a young woman stopped by and gave my husband a Sarris Milk Chocolate Crispy Bar. Her mother had sent her to deliver it as a gift because she read in my last blog that it was my favorite. The chocolate bar was just like the one I purchased while I was anxiously waiting for my daughter to get out of surgery.
I had just come back when she was leaving, and I thanked her before I learned the whole story. When Tom filled me in, I wished I could find her in the crowd and hug her (of course, only after asking permission!).

Sometimes small moments just stick with you. This show was full of memorable moments, great and small. Though I’ll miss the big Home and Garden Show downtown this week at the Convention Center, it’s safe to say that I’ll return to the South Hills Home Show next year!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by. This week I’m back to painting. And since I just got our gardening tools sharpened, and spring is just around the corner, I’ll be doing some gardening as well!

Have a great week!
