Kaufmann’s Department Store was a favorite destination where Santa, seated on his majestic throne, warmly greeted each child after they happily waited in long lines just to have their moment with him.
The shy little boy in the painting is looking up in awe at Santa while clutching his Kaufmann’s toy catalog. He brought it along so he can show Santa exactly what he most wants to find under the tree on Christmas morning. Meanwhile, the little girl gazes at Santa adoringly, knowing he can make all children’s dreams come true.

As legend goes, on Christmas Eve a miracle happens throughout the animal kingdom. Sometime during the wee hours of the morning, the animals are gifted, but only for a short time, with the ability to talk to each other.
It is an amazing site to behold.
Santa, on the other hand, can speak and understand all animals at any time, and he loves to bring them gifts. This year, his reindeer Prancer, who loves visiting his woodland friends, is happy Santa invited him to come along.
As Santa announces that he’s brought treats for everyone, all the animals are filled with joy! It is truly a Christmas miracle that they are well fed and all living in peace on Christmas morning.

“He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.” This lighthearted poem by Clement Moore’s “A Visit from St. Nicholas” truly inspired “Santa’s Merry Wink!”
Kaufmann’s Department Store was a favorite destination where Santa, seated on his majestic throne, warmly greeted each child after they happily waited in long lines just to have their moment with him.
With childlike joy, Santa leans over the train to look down the track. Clickity-clack, the train circles round the platform and heads back to the curve. Santa exclaims, “Choo! Choo! All aboard!”
Santa settles into his favorite chair by the glowing fire and enjoys an early evening snack of milk and cookies. The best part of the day is reading heartfelt letters mailed to him by children from all around the world.

Santa soon discovers that riding a cool motor cycle is a great diversion from his sleigh. As he speeds through the night, snow flies, toys take flight and even the little puppy holds on.

Once a year Santa trains up his youngest reindeer to eventually fly his sleigh. Imagine Santa’s delight at this little token of tenderness as the little fellow licks Santa’s face.

Delivering toys to all the children of the world can get very tiring at times, and sometimes even Santa needs a break. As he walks around the house he smiles as he spots milk and cookies and an old train set. The next thing you know – the Jolly Old Elf himself is laying flat on his stomach.
Just as every child loves to view, he bends over so that his eye is over the train, creating a whole different world at that level. Santa cranks up the power a little. The train lights up and comes to life, slowly sparking and traveling down the track. Clickity-clack, the train circles round the platform and heads back to the curve. As the train roars past Santa and heads to the station, Ol’ St Nick just CAN”T resist: “CHOO CHOO! All Aboard!!!”

“Oh,…she’s just going to love this”, thinks Santa Claus as he puts the finishing touches on a rocking horse that a special little girl wanted just for her doll. More often than not, Santa likes to put on his apron and walk to the back corner of the Workshop where he likes to tinker with the old tools that he began with so many years ago at his very own workbench. The elves could always use a little help, and Santa finds that working with his hands brings a sense of peace and relaxation. “Silent Night”, being sung by Bing Crosby, plays on the old radio from a late night radio station somewhere halfway around the world. Christmas is getting nearer and all is calm, all is bright.
But it’s not the toy making, nor the music, that brings the smile to Santa’s face. It will be the look of joy, on that little girl’s face on Christmas morning when she comes downstairs to see the toys that were made just for her.

The painting, “Shhhh!” takes you back to your early childhood with thoughts of Santa and what he meant to you. He is the Santa who is jolly, warm, has rosy cheeks and wants nothing more than to make every little child glad. You are no longer the grown-up, but that 4 year old sneaking down the steps to catch a glimpse of Santa. Surprised, Santa motions and whispers, “Shhhh!”.
Festive, bright and true to life, for those from Pittsburgh it has a clever twist of a “painting within a painting”. “Waiting for You under Kaufmann’s Clock” may be a sold out print, but lives again in Linda’s new painting as background to “Shhhh!”. This rendering is a charming reminder of the annual ritual of the ride into downtown Pittsburgh to see the Christmas windows! All in all, “Shhhh!” not only ushers in the season of joy and wonder, but brings with it a great feeling of nostalgia that makes you want to share it with your family and friends.
