Driving along Route 30 during the mid-20th century, long before the Pennsylvania Turnpike was built, was a beautiful country road experience. About 80 miles outside of Pittsburgh and just 17 miles before you reached Bedford, you would find a unique sight and a great piece of Americana.
“Lincoln Highway’s Historic Ship Hotel” depicts a hotel/restaurant that was built to resemble an ocean liner anchored off a cliff along Route 30. Standing on what would be the bow of the boat you and your family could overlook a patchwork of fields, farms, hills, and mountains from which you could see 3 states and 7 counties.
